Tai Hang Dragon Dance is a traditional custom in Tai Hang, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. This activity was first appeared in the end of 19th century. Now it is on the third list of China national intangible cultural heritage. As for the source of the Tai Hang Dragon dance, there was a story at one night before the Mid-autumn Festival in 1880. The typhoon arrived to the Tai Hang village that night and a boa constrictor was beat to death in a hovel because it swallowed the domestic animal of the village. The next day, typhoon left and the body of boa constrictor disappeared. But plague happened in the village and many villagers became ill and died. A Taoist said the plague was a punishment from the Dragon King because the boa constrictor was actually sone of the Dragon King. Also an old man in the village said god told him in his dream that Fire Dragon can beat the Dragon King and save them. So they hold Dragon Dance for three nights which was from 14th-16th, August of the traditional Chinese calendar. It worked and the activity maintained until now. Although it was stoped for a few years, but Tai Hang Dragon Dance started again since SARS happened in Hong Kong in 2003.
